Homeward Bound!!

You heard right! This crazy BYU cougar is going H<3ME!!! (at least for thanksgiving)
After some pretty stressful weeks of school, I am more than ready to go home for a few days.
There have definitely been some high and low points, and even some humorous spots as well.

Today's Highlights:

1. I bought long socks today :) Nothing like warm toes.
2. The maintenance guys were fixing the heater when I got home, so I have a very warm apartment now, and while we waited to make sure it worked, we had a lovely visit. Because they were practically over every other day at my old apartment, I try not to laugh when I find them in my apartment, and it's so normal just to say hi, chat a bit, and then have what ever was broken, all fixed up. They are sooo amazing, and always willing to come if I need anything at all. I'm pretty spoiled :)
3. When I went to get my socks, I was sitting at a light--more like dancing at the light--singing along with the radio. I just happened to look in my rear-view mirror, and to my surprise, horror, or whatever my reation should have been, I found the couple kissing.......and kissing.......and kissing.....while they were waiting for the light to turn. Texting and driving is.....illegal. Drinking and driving is....illegal. Kissing and driving.........(should be) VERY ILLEGAL. As a friend put it today, it's driving under the influence.
4. Dad and I went the The Wall and watched half of the BYU Basketball game, and had an awesome dinner. It's pretty funny when most people in there are on a date, and you are too--except it's a daddy-daughter date. That's like a double-score for Dad; he doesn't have to worry about me being out with a boy, and he gets time with me!!
5. Today is usually one of my temple-days, but the Provo temple is under renovations, so I thought I would still go up to the grounds, and maybe even catch a sunset in the process. Here you are! (for some reason, everything is a little washed out...but you can still see them)

Today was a pretty good day! I am very grateful for all of my many blessings.

It's not that I don't enjoy those nights when one roommate is skyping with her fiance in Chinese, while the other is on the phone talking to her boyfriend in Spanish, and the third is with her boyfriend (in person, and only speaking English) on the couch in the living room.....(which by process of elimination only leaves the bathroom quiet) but I'm ready to go home, most definitely.

So, in less than 24 hours I will be home :)
Lots of Love,
Tayler

P.S.
To-Do's while home:

1. Laugh long and hard with my family
2. Sit and just talk (my cat included)
3. Catch a sunset in the back of my brother's truck with him and two cups of hot chocolate
4. Count stars till I'm practically frozen (It is amazing that I have as many blessings as there are stars in the sky!)
5. Enjoy sleeping in a double bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Take lots of pictures

My New Love

I have had a wonderful whirl-wind weekend! It was filled with the BYU Synthesis concert--which was absolutely beyond incredible--guitar and ukulele, church meetings, roommate rewrites of songs, a thanksgiving family dinner, and country dancing.

Let me start it off with the fact that every time I moved my arms today, my shoulders were sort-of grumpy. All day, I was wondering,"what on earth could I have done to my shoulders?" Then about an hour ago, it was like BAM!! I remembered that I went country dancing with guys who are incredibly skilled at leading, and I was spinning and dipping and whirling through moves I didn't even know were possible.  Let's just say that I could feel it today.
But in regards to dancing, I had the time of my life! I was in my long jeans and cowboy boots as the guys sent me whirling this way, then spun me that way--it was one of the greatest feelings in the world.
I definitely haven't danced much, at least it has been a very long time, but they were pretty patient and didn't let me apologize for not knowing exactly how to do everything. Quite frankly I can't tell you specific steps or moves that we did, but all I know is we danced, and we were flying across the floor!
I have to say one of my favorite parts was that all that was played was country music--good, country music--and half the people in there (myself included) were wearing their boots! At one point, I stood looking out over all of the people paired up on the wood floor, as they all danced differently, focused only on their partner, it was as if none of them had a care in the world. They pretty much dropped all of their worries at the door. I definitely needed that too.
I really need to just go to bed, but long-story-short, I think I fell in love this weekend, and he goes by the name of country swing.

Goodnight, and lots of love,
Tayler
(This is what was playing when we all walked in :) )

And these are just two of my favorites:

I danced this one with a Texan who told me (after I apologized for not being the best dancer) to never apologize for something like dancing, and that people "up-here" apologize way too much! :)

Right Where I Belong

I've been doing a lot of thinking today.
I haven't been in a bad mood, but more of a frustrated one. College is quite the roller-coaster at times. I was thinking a lot though about how life looks nothing like I had imagined it would at 19 years old. I am grateful everyday that it looks the way it does, but it is most definitely different. I was walking home today, and of course, my hands were freezing. Actually, I have Raynaud's syndrome--nothing life-threatening or dangerous--so pretty much my blood doesn't circulate super well, and my hands and feet get super cold. Long story short, it isn't comfortable when it turns into winter. So, as I was walking home, hands in my pockets, I thought about Hawaii. It actually isn't as random as you think, because you see, the original plan was wrapped around going to BYU Hawaii for school. I obviously switched to Provo.
This was back in January of this year.
Needless to say, I can't recall a time in my life that I was more excited. I know that a family event or something much more meaningful should be at the top of my list, but the day I got the acceptance e-mail (I screamed when I opened it....and if you know me that is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime) I was the happiest I have ever been in my life. We're talking cloud nine to the ninth power. High school was nearing the end, and Hawaii was the next chapter. It was perfect!! I came across this picture, and it almost hurt seeing it because I had wanted to go to that school so bad, and could hardly wait. However, after a few days of my heart racing 24/7, something didn't feel right. I don't mean physically, as in my body, but more like something wasn't sitting right in my whole plan for life.
Then i was accepted to THE Y. I opened that e-mail and thought, hmm, that's cool I made it in. And that was it. Still I felt like something wasn't quite right in my life and it drove me absolutely nuts;I was working hard, and doing everything I was supposed to. Finally, there was one day at work that I really couldn't concentrate, and I thought, "I have had it! What is on my mind!" So I made a list of the first things off the top of my head. Number one was BYU Hawaii, and I can't even remember the rest of the list because after I wrote down #1, I knew I needed to put a lot of thought into my decision on whether or not to go there.
After a long few weeks of going back and forth, I finally had to make the decision to not attend BYU Hawaii, and instead go to BYU in Provo, Utah. I won't pretend like there weren't many tears when I finally made that decision, or even more when I was having major roommate issues while here at BYU. I found myself wondering why I couldn't have just gone to Hawaii. It is a great school, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But I knew the answer, there were things that I needed to learn and do, waiting for me in Provo, Utah.
A little while after, I went through the same process in deciding on whether or not to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am sure that somewhere in all of my brunettes there are a few gray hairs!! At the end of the day, I had that same feeling that I needed to be at BYU. So, here I am, trying to stay afloat with all of my classes and walking home in the rain, quickly losing feeling in my fingers.
I promise this post doesn't end on a dismal note though. :) Actually, it ends on a rather incredible note. A little while back we had a relief society training meeting and two members from the general board came and spoke on loving those around us and service. Towards the end there were microphones passed around, and I mentioned my story, but how it amazes me that our heavenly Father knows us so perfectly, and has missions for us all throughout our lives.
After the conference I went and thanked the two speakers and introduced myself as the girl who had spoken earlier. One of the ladies looked at me and said "Isn't is incredible!? Isn't is marvelous, that you know you are exactly where you are supposed to be?!"
That statement rocked my world. I have always thought about how I didn't get to go to hawaii or serve a mission, and didn't know why I had to be in Utah. I had neglected the most important piece though--That I know, I am exactly where I need to be.
With that, what is there to complain or worry about? I know. What else could I ask for?

So let me take you back to walking home, hands in pockets, icicles for fingers. After feeling so frustrated, I finished walking home, made a grilled-cheese sandwich, and then sat to start my blog post with a cup of hot chocolate, of course.
What was there to complain about? Even my fingers were happily wrapped around a giant mug of hot chocolate.

Now we're caught up to speed, and I am currently sitting at my kitchen table in my sweatshirt (pictured above) that was a hand-me-up from my little brother, contacts are out, glasses are on, and I am very much so content. I just got back from spending some time with my dad for his birthday, and there and back got to jam out to Christmas music with a friend and his sister+her guy.(If that makes any sense...) It was a great way to end the night.
Tomorrow, well, today......HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Tomorrow is another temple-day, and I think I'm feeling a friday movie-night. Not sure what it will be, but after a date with my textbooks, I believe a movie sounds pretty good. Or maybe even just a nap....naps are more stellar than movies sometimes.

Well, I wish you all an incredible Friday, and have a safe weekend.
P.S. I linked my favorite Christmas song  (except my all time favorite is All I want for Christmas is You, by Michael Buble) to my post because it didn't happen to come on while we were driving. (Promise there are no hints involved) :)

Love, Tayler

Tomorrow Is a New Day

Well, I had a blog post all typed out, then my internet connection cut and I lost it. Pretty much I talked about how crazy today was and how I ran to the testing center to find that I didn't have my ID, so I ran all the way back home and again to the testing center, just to take a crazy nutrition exam. But, afterwards I was able to go the the BYU vs. Idaho basketball game, and believe me I actually screamed and shouted for the cougars. It was good to temporarily drop the grades at the door, and yell about something other than what I truly wanted to yell about.

In regards to school, I can use all the help I can get, so when I had to go buy shampoo, I thought this was probably my best option:
Anything Helps!

I have to say though, that I am so very blessed. Remember the counting your blessings post/clip?

So instead of sheep here are my blessings:

1. I have a family that truly cares about me

2. I have been blessed with a body that allows me to walk and run and function
3. I was born into a family that lives the gospel
4. I live in America

5. I was accepted to Brigham Young University
6. I live 5 minutes from a temple
7. I am very unique

8. I have a healthy, working, mind
9. I am extremely creative (to the point that I sometimes wish I could just shut it off so I can sleep)

10. I am grateful highschool wasn't easy--I learned a lot

11. My parents make it possible--financially--to attend college
12. If I every needed something, I have several people close by that I could call
13. I may need glasses, but I am in no way, shape, or form, blind
14. Someone thought of hot chocolate
15. No matter what, there is always a sunset. Every day. No exceptions.

16. Someday I get the opportunity to start a family of my own
17. I have a calling as the first counselor in the Relief Society
18. Technology allows us to talk to people far away
19. We have to eat--therefore we have to cook :)

20. Preisthood power is an incredible thing, and I am SO blessed to be surrounded by those worthy to have that sacred responsibility
21. I can laugh. Not just physically as in my vocal folds haven't called it quits, but that every day there is something that makes me giggle. (today it was the brilliant brunette... :)  )
22. Music
23. Singing--it is amazing how we can change our emotions by just singing and letting it out.
24. Internet--this whole blog thing wouldn't work very well without it
25. Cameras!! It is beyond remarkable how we can hold onto memories through photos

26. Mugs--everything tastes better--cereal, rice, soup, mashed potatoes, salad....ect.--in a mug
27. Books--there is so much to learn, and things to realize
28. Hugs. It is beyond crazy what a meaningful, real, hug, from someone you know loves you, can do for your soul
29. Dancing--getting swept off your feet never hurts.
30. Clean sheets that smell like the clothesline. I call it a transporter-smell. If I wouldn't look like a total weirdo at my apartment, I would find a way to hang my sheets out to dry, because there is nothing in this world like the smell of clean sheet off the line. I literally would probably wake up wondering why I wasn't home. Actually, there are days I do that already....

When I stop to count, I have to say that life is pretty amazing, and I am BEYOND blessed. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of dancing in the rain, but I'm getting there.
Good morning, and lots of love,
Tayler

Cold Hands Warm Heart

It has been a terrific Tuesday. And really, I've kind of just been floating on a cloud--Life is so beautiful.

I got up this morning and had a mug of hot lemon and honey while I read a chapter of The Holy Temple, by Elder Packer. Today was one of my temple days, so I put Sunday clothes on, and went to the temple. I usually keep my recommend in my wallet, but I had forgotten that I only had my ID and debit card. I walked in through the temple doors, and at that moment realized I didn't have my recommend. What a terrible feeling it was to be able to reach out and touch the desk where you show your recommend, but be unable to go any further. I jumped back in my car, and ran back home to get it. The second time at that desk was very different. I felt amazing, knowing that I am living my life how I need to, to walk through those doors and participate in the great work of the temple. Keeping the temple in your sights, is often the best gauge of our progress in returning to our heavenly father, and by attending the temple, we are eligible for the blessings of peace and hope.

After showing my recommend to the temple worker at the front desk, he said that he wanted to introduce me to a member of the temple presidency that was standing there. The gentleman smiled and shook my hand, but didn't let go. "Your hands are so cold! It must be really cold out there." He softly said as he still held on to my hand. I replied that it wasn't that cold, but I always have very cold hands. He chuckled, and with my hand still in his, he said, "you must have a very warm heart."
I've heard the phrase "cold hands--warm heart" before, but it really sunk in this time. I'm not talking about the cold part--believe me, I understand funny-colored hands and feet/being cold, much too well!! But having a warm heart is something that isn't talked about very often. What does it mean to have a warm heart?

Here are the 10 things I could think of:

1. At Peace-- Somehow they know that if they do everything in their power, that it will all turn out. A warm heart trusts in His plan.
2. Humble--I warm heart understands their worth, but also sees the worth of everyone around them, and doesn't need to constantly seek approval.
3. Honest, strong, true--A warm heart is faithful and resilient. They have a strong testimony, and show their colors on their sleeve.
4. Willing and trusting--They are always there if someone needs something. They can see that life is going to take work, but somehow there is joy to be found in the journey
5. Slow to anger--Patience is most definitely a virtue, and giving people the benefit of the doubt usually saves a lot of feelings from being hurt.
6. Sees the good in life and people--Optimism makes every day brighter and is extremely contagious(This does not mean that they are not allowed to feel sadness or have a bad day--life throws major curve-balls)
7. Seeks out those who need their warmth--A warm heart wants to share that warmth and make others' burdens light. They listen when people need to just talk, and are willing to sacrifice their time and energy to make a difference no matter how small.
8. Prayerful--A warm heart relies on their heavenly Father, to help guide them to become better and able to recognize the needs of others.
9. Soft and gentle--inviting, and uses their words to lift others up; willing to listen and tries to understand. Everyone know that at the end of the day, they are always someone who is safe and that they can go to.
10. Expresses love (Can give a warm smile to a warm hug :) ) --there are times people may just need a hug, while others need space. A warm heart is willing to watch and act according to the person's needs.

What's incredible about lists is that they are designed with an order, and meant to be done one by one. With that said, I have so many to work on as I gain a truly "warm heart." (more like an imperfectly-perfect warm heart)

A friend asked my mom one time if I was looking for a "repentant heart." He meant someone who has grown and become better every day. In my books then, a warm heart is the same as a repentant heart--someone always learning and growing and becoming more like Christ.

So to answer a few questions:

Do I have a warm heart?  Well, it has come a long way and I can guarantee that it will come even further. Am I striving to gain an even warmer heart? Absolutely. My goal is to have my heart become that imperfectly-perfect warm heart.

Am I looking for a warm (repentant) heart? Yes. I am looking for an imperfectly-perfect warm heart that comes with all sorts of personality and expressions all of his own.(and preferably very warm hands--after over 19 years of cold hands, my fingers should get to be warm at least when I'm with him ;) ) . And when we find each other--a search like this often takes a lot of time and patience--we will start where I started today: at the temple.

Have a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow, and as always,
Lots of Love from this Crazy College girl,

Tayler

When You love Her But don't LOVE Her

I have to accredit this blog post to a conversation I had with two very brave and honest guys yesterday. As we sat eating massive Carl's Jr. hamburgers we some how came on the conversation about--I can't recall how exactly--the most important things they've wanted to tell a girl, that are practically if not entirely impossible to say. But what kind of girl? Those incredible women who are everything they want, but the chemistry and spark aren't there. We're talking about those girls that are gorgeous, smart, incredible, and everything that a guys wants, yet not the person they are to spend the rest of their life with. To put it simply, he loves her to the point that he would never want her to settle for someone less than what she deserves--to the point of wanting to tell them to get away from those who don't treat them right--but he doesn't love her as an eternal companion. The chemistry isn't there.

And here are his words:

"There are two things that I've learned this semester, that are absolutely essential to tell a girl. But, these things are impossible to say, and even slightly inappropriate to divulge. The problem is there are girls that are worth telling and that deserve to know, but they’re usually the ones who think this post isn't for them.
The first is letting a girl know that she exemplifies every quality and trait that I would desire in a wife, but I’m not attracted to her. She is worth giving the world up for, but there’s no chemistry. It’s not a matter of beauty or anything superficial; it’s just an absence of a necessary spark. It’s the lack of butterflies when they walk in the room, and the lack of the lightheartedness that makes you feel like you could take on the world. It’s enough even, to keep me up at night wondering why I’m not attracted to her. As a friend put it, “it works out perfectly on paper, but why doesn’t it work practically?” Honestly, I’d like to know. The thing is, you’d like to tell this girl she’s the most amazing person in the world, she’s got nothing but the stars to aim for, and she’s worth every bit of time anyone’s ever given. She’s something special. But how dare a guy tell any girl this if he’s not actually attracted to her, right? It could never be taken in the light it was meant to be given. It’s a shame though, ‘cause they deserve this compliment, and it is a compliment. They deserve to know how special they are, and that people recognize that. And even though I see it all, I’m not the one for you.
The second is telling a girl she should or needs to leave her boyfriend. Hold your laughter, I would never tell a girl what to do. Yet, it just cuts to the core when you see a girl who is completely miserable with the guy she’s with, and won’t do anything about it. I think it boils down to three things.
"First, she’s afraid that outside of this relationship, no one else will love her or care for her like “he” does. Whether it’s the things they do together or just the “way” it is, no one could possibly be like that. I just want every girl to know that’s complete bull-oney. It’s not worth being with a guy who doesn't make you smile or laugh or with a guy who just doesn't make you happy. I’m even going to go as far as saying that if you’re in a relationship just for the physical funsies of the whole thing it’s not worth it.
"Second, she sees a redeeming quality or trait in the guy that covers up everything else that hurts her.  It might even be that she feels that she can change him. I’m not saying that’s not a noble cause, and that people shouldn't see the good in each other. But, when it comes to making yourself completely miserable over one thing it’s not worth it.
"Third, at the end of the day she might feel it’s better to be with a guy than none at all. I get that, it might be that this is the first guy in a while that’s shown genuine interest in you, or maybe just any interest at all. That being said, it doesn't necessarily justify putting up with him if you’re not happy. In fact, this guy might be a really great guy; there might be nothing wrong with him. But if you’re not happy with it, people notice and guys like me would love to tell you to drop it.

"Really the reason it’s hard to say any of this is because I care too much to watch you stay miserable. You deserve to be happy. And I care enough about you to want to tell you exactly how incredible you are. At the end of the day, I would do the exact same thing for my sisters."

Lots of Love,

Tayler and....the gentleman who will not be named, but if you would like his number....we could talk.

The Elder Who Loves Everyone

It's a Saturday night, and I can honestly say that today was a really good day. The football game was freezing, but we won, and the basketball game was totally fun as well. Right now as I'm sitting blogging, my roommates are in the kitchen with one of the boyfriends. They aren't exactly dating their textbooks like this girl. :)

But really, I was sitting here wondering what on earth I could blog about. Tomorrow is Sunday, and even though it is a day of rest, it often feels busier and crazier than the rest of the week. Right now I am the first counselor in relief society, and have ward counsel in the morning, but I still felt like blogging. Blogging for me, is kind of like unlocking a piece of my mind and heart before I go to bed. Putting it on paper just feels so good.

So, as I was sitting here I thought I would jump on Lds.org, and I found this video about this young man who embodies Christlike love and service. Take a look:

Then this got me thinking how throughout my life I have met people who have helped to teach me how to love more perfectly and purely just as Christ does. Some have taught me that it is ok (and even a good thing) to hug people when you see them; more like let people hug you!  :) (I have the elder's quorum president in my singles ward to thank for that.) At the same time, I've met others who are so good at vocalizing compliments. But tonight, I was thinking about a family friend that embodies Christlike love. The most incredible thing, is he tells everyone he loves them, and means it. I'm not talking from a romantic perspective, but a Christlike, genuine care for people.
This would be him:

Back home we would have the Missionaries over Wednesday mornings for waffles. (You can see the waffle count chalk board where we would keep the standing reccords of total waffles eaten in one sitting.) This Elder in particular served in our area for a good three months, and was practically part of the family. (Yes, they actually came to my High School Graduation.)

Though he first tried to convince us he was from Brisbane, Australia, we soon figured out he is a southern tease, and an incredible missionary. He connects with people, and loves them exactly as they are. Whenever we would call their cell phone and have to leave a message, the answering machine would always end with, "Love you." (with a hint of southern drawl)
That didn't change when he would leave messages on the home phone, or bear his testimony in sacrament meeting. His testimony is actaully when it hit me. People say I love you all the time, but it is so casual and sometimes almost meaningless. I know that for me, unless you are my family, I am extremely stingy when it comes to using the words "I love you." Even ending my blog posts with "love" took some mental self-reassurance that yes, it is okay to say that.
I remember sitting with my family though, as this Elder bore his testimony in sacrament meeting, saying that he loved all of us. And the crazy part is he actually does. That hit me like a tank! This 19 year old college guy, could sincerely say that he loved everyone, and I believed him.

Somehow, he loves the people he crosses paths with, and all those he teaches--even to the extent of making a point of telling them so. I definitely learned a lot from having him in our ward and in our home for dinner or FHE or Wednesday waffles. He is one of the most remarkable examples of Christlike love, and I know that those qualities he possesses won't go out the door when his name tag comes off; Christ's name is written on his heart.

So, on this now, Sunday, I am going to strive harder to truly love people, and personally develop more of those Christlike qualities. Heaven knows we need more of that in this world.
Remember, there are so many people all around us who need our love, and will never know it is there unless we show them.

I wish you the best Sunday,
Love You!

Reflections

It feels like I haven't blogged in forever--quite frankly I haven't done something other than studying in quite a while. To sum up my life right now, yesterday, I found myself in Walmart, grabbing a case of water bottles, laundry detergent and a few other things I can't recall at the moment. (Note: Even though I am in college, I am still in the mindset that I have a whole family at home, so I grabbed the same brand, largest size and just threw it in the shopping cart. Note to self, I no longer shop with my mother for a whole family, and it will take a year to go through my laundry detergent!) Anyways, I found myself in Walmart, grabbing a few things off the shelves, while on the phone with my dad, a class starting in 45 minutes, and I was making dinner plans for Thursday, not realizing it was tomorrow. Right now the days are more like a never-ending day--I live at the library, and am determined to survive the semester.

Survive I shall, but not without the help of my heavenly Father.

Today I took an exam, then finished a paper just to run it to a lab with three minutes to spare. After the lab, it was my time to go to the temple. I have to confess I tried on half of my closet before I went out the door and to the temple.

I get chills every time I drive up the hill and through the front gate of the temple grounds. After I park, I usually go through the parking lot, then take the path under the front tunnel-like entry way. Instead, today I went straight to the base of the hill, and walked straight up to the temple, taking all of the stairs, and passing the fountains. So, when I reached the doors, I saw this girl. She was tall, and strong, and glowing--ready to be in the Lord's house. You could tell that she knew she was a daughter of God. She looked like she belonged there. She was all grown up. I want to say that I saw her how our heavenly Father sees her, and that moment took my breathe away. When we looked at each other, a huge smile appeared on both our faces, and maybe even a tear in our eyes. I could see it--I truly am a daughter of the King.

It shouldn't have, but my reflection caught me by surprise. It was like I didn't recognize myself at first, but my image in the glass doors of the temple opened my eyes to the fact that I truly am His, and I am home.

What was even more shocking was that I saw things in this reflection that I've never been able to see before. I was beautiful--I'm not referring to the world"s perspective and opinions--I was happy, and worthy, and like all of His children, divine.

After standing there a moment, I could picture someone--my best friend and future companion--standing next to me--equally worthy, happy, and divine. I couldn't picture his face because I don't know what he looks like. I couldn't hear his voice, because to my knowledge I haven't heard it. And I could not call him by name, because that is something I have yet to discover as well. I knew though, that someday he would be standing right there; together we would take part in this great work, starting with being sealed for time and all eternity. Yet at the same time, I knew that even though he wasn't there at that moment, he was somewhere being a part of this great gospel.
The doors opened and I spent the next hour enjoying the peace only found within the walls of the temple.

The temple truly is His house, and a refuge from the worries of mortal life, but when you see your own reflection, whether or not it is in the doors of the temple, let yourself see what He sees in you. You are created in His image, and you are divine. Please don't forget that.

School may be just about nuts, sleep may have reached the point when your roommate's almost-boyfriend tells you it isn't ok and that you need a lot more, and the cold-sores may have finally showed up, but life is good. I have found that no matter how many questions you missed on an exam, how late you were for class, how many grumpy people are in your life, and no matter how dark life may seem, there is always a bright sunset at the end of the day, and a beautiful sunrise just around the corner.

Lots of Love,

Tayler

11:11 11/11 Make a Wish!

Wow, I can honestly say that I had a wonderful birthday!

I started off this morning by making some very delicious pumpkin french-toast. (orange toast even though you can't tell from the photo)

Then I was off to classes in my orange coat that screams "me." :)

And just because it was my birthday, I decided to get a bright orange Jamba Juice--the guy working at the register got a funny little smirk when I told him my name. He must have a pretty amazing Tayle/or in his life. :) (usually I would have thought that his name was Taylor too, but he had a name tag on, and his name is, in fact, John. )

At 11:11 AM today I made the craziest and biggest wish I have ever made. It was as follows....
and you thought I was actually going to tell you. ;) It won't come true if I tell anyone, so you are all out of luck on this 11th day of the 11th month.

Out of the blue, I had the chance to catch up with an old friend from elementary school and middle school. She and I were blown away when we realized we've known each other for nine years!! (this is Jessica and I a year and a half ago. She is on the far right, and I am the last girl on the left.) Feels like just yesterday we were ridding the school bus together to 4th grade!!

After school and spending time with my dad, I headed out to family home evening at our bishop's house. We had chili and baked potatoes, and then someone had to mention it was my birthday, so everyone sang and I blew out the candle on my brownie and ice-cream. After an amazing lesson on using time wisely and self mastery, we said "family" prayer and headed back home.

I quickly changed into my favorite pajamas, ditched the contacts and after my super-sweet roommates brought out a pancake-cake for me, with a candle on top, participated in an absolutely hilarious debate over what the giant bug in our kitchen was. Three of us spent 30 minutes explaining that the thing was a "mosquito Hawk", but it wasn't a "mosquito." Because of the language barriers (Chinese, Spanish, and English) we had all sorts of sound effects in hopes of getting our own points across.
Of course school is stressful, and there have been a lot of big decisions to make, but when I got up this morning, I decided that today was going to be a good, worry-free day, and it really was a practically-perfect birthday.
The highlight of my day was receiving two beautiful cards--one from each of my parents. They most certainly pulled at my heart strings a bit. There were so many friends who did the most meaningful things today--Thank you so much!! It is odd to not be home on your birthday.

On that note, (no pun intended) I'd like to put my day to music for you, with three of my favorite songs. Enjoy!
Lots of Love,
Tayler

And for the grand finale: Just in time, for my second and last wish of the day.

Beautiful Heartbreak

Before you read anything, I need you to watch this:

Well, all I have to say is that life often-times feels like it is spinning out of control, and almost too hard to keep going. I have faith though, that we truly are part of the great plan of happiness; which was created out of love for us, by our Heavenly Father.

Even though I have had so many things on my mind today, it has been absolutely beautiful. To start off, we had stake conference, and all of the speakers did an incredible job. The stake president talked about how trials often (if not always) put us where we need to be. Not getting a certain job, or acceptance into a school are often a means of getting us to where we need to be in order to learn and grow closer to God.

After conference I went back to the closest place to home, and sat on a bench and just thought about life and took a second to breathe.

Once I got back to my apartment, my roommate's home teachers showed up, and I just listened as I made pumpkin bread in the kitchen. It is incredible to hear the genuine concern they have for her, and my heart was touched as they read scriptures together, and talked about the strength you gain from regular scripture study. After they left, she was glowing--knowing that her home teachers took the time to come and see her, and that they truly cared for her.

I little while later, my home teachers showed up, and we sat and talked--getting to know one another. Again, it was incredible to me that they were actually interested in my life, and the trials that come with it. They left with a lesson about trusting, and stepping back to stop and see the miracles that life brings even though it is hard to see them through the trials. Again, I was so impressed with the spirit they brought, and their diligence in being home teachers.

Maybe the best part of my day was about 15 minutes, tops, but before ward prayer, I called home to see what everyone was up to, and I ended up having family scripture study with everyone. They left me on speaker-phone, and I listened as they went around, taking turns reading in Jacob. There is power in the scriptures, and there is even more power in a family, when they are studying the scriptures together.

Have a wonderful Monday!!
Lots of Love,

Everything But the Kitchen Sink......wait, does a bathroom sink count??

Oh my goodness!! The last 24 hours have been pretty insane but totally fun at the same time. Let me first off introduce you to a fellow foodie of mine. This is Bryan.
I am sure you are all just dying to know why on earth we are taking a selfie (is that how I would go about spelling that term??) in a parking garage. Well, this is no ordinary parking garage--you are looking at the building-entry level of the parking garage leading into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City.

Wait! I have another introduction to make. Do you know who this is?

This tall, kind, gentleman is Elder L. Tom Perry, one of the quorum of the twelve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The reason Bryan and I found ourselves taking a photo at that specific spot in the parking garage, was due to the fact that the last time we were standing there, we both had the chance to shake Elder Perry's hand!! While heading towards the doors, he had been making his way out to the parking garage, when we happened to be going right past him. He had a few people with him, but stopped and turned to us, looked us in the eye and shook our hands.
If the night had ended after that, we would have been more than ecstatic!

But, then there was chocolate. A LOT of chocolate.

Still in shock from just shaking a general authority's hand, we made our way to the Confectionery Night by the Guitard company. I have to say that neither of us had any clue what the night was going to look like. We figured out pretty quick though when the reps and chemists from Guitard started giving their presentations of the process and make-up of chocolate.
Allow me to introduce to you the next up-and-coming chocolate connoisseurs! (Bryan has a head start on me due to the fact he's been in Russia for the last two years, but I'm feeling pretty confident after being thoroughly educated last night. I even found myself sitting at a friend's kitchen table afterwards, explaining--while the box of chocolates you see me holding below was being consumed by the three of us-girls--the process of fermenting cocoa or coco.)
Yup--we're food geeks!

Needless to say, we learned a ton, and when we were asked what company we were from (we must have looked at least a bit professional...) we just replied that we were with BYU. Being a college student is a beautiful thing sometimes.

So, after starting to feel the effects of the acumlating caffine in our blood streams, we headed out-- full of chocolate and chocolate knowledge. Did you know that chocolate can bloom? Do you know what liqueur in the chocolate world is? Mind-blown. Or how about the size of the micro-particles that are essentially buffed and polished to achieve the smoothness that you then enjoy? I'm not kidding when I say that we learned sooooo much!

After an awesome time of eating crazy kinds and amounts of chocloate, and laughing about it the whole way home, we headed back and said goodnight. The End.....wait! I forgot the sink!!!

We're still within the 24 hour block this story is covering. :)

First, my day today was amazing--I went to the temple with two amazing friends, made Mediterranean pitas for lunch, and then went to a movie with my cousin. Yep, I got to go watch this guy for two hours. :)

But, because my life is so unpredictable and entertaining, my heart has to stop (figuratively) at least once in a 24-hour amount of time. I found myself getting ready this evening to go to the movie with my cousin. Needless to say, I opened the ring box that has two sets of earrings that used to belong to my great-grandmother. I open the box and to my horror, one of the earrings pops out, bounces once on the counter, and lands straight in the sink drain!!! My. Heart. Stopped.
I called my dad, and his reaction was, "don't turn the sink on, and grab one of the guys across the breezeway!" So....I call one of my friends, and within 5 minutes, she and her engineer boyfriend were over, taking my sink apart. After a few minutes, we found it!! AHHH! I was sooooo beyond relieved, but I just have to laugh at the fact that it would happen to me! :)

Well, that's enough for today, and I am beyond exhausted!
So, with lots of love,

Tayler

Counting My Blessings

It has been one whirl-wind of a day, but I had the privilege of going to a Relief Society Training and listen to an area seventy and two Relief Society board members. It was everything I needed to hear and then some--I am just sitting in awe counting my many blessings.

This clip has been running though my head for the last few days, and I have to agree, that life is just beautiful when you step back and count your blessings. Goodnight!
Lots of Love,

Tayler

P.S. What are you thankful for??

My Handsome Man

Note: Before I get rolling, I have to warn you that this is going to be a long post, but the only way to do it justice is to tell the whole story. If you've got a bit of time, enjoy!

Last night I was thinking a lot about how I have always been blessed to have an incredible friend in my life. I got to spend a while last night talking to one of those special friends, and it got me thinking about how incredible it is that somehow all along the road I've always had someone who could show me that life is ok, and just love me exactly the way I was at that time. I love my family and would always consider them my closest friends, but I also have a very handsome man in my life.

Allow me to introduce you to my best friend who has showed me what a gentleman is supposed to be like. This is my Mr.Mendellsohn. He and I have been through so much together. First off, I'm sure you're wondering how such a catch-of-a-cat could land a name like Mr. Mendellsohn. Well, he was given to me Christmas eve--I was thirteen. Wow. And I thought he was amazing, then. When he'd curl up he was the size of my hand, and entirely white except for his ears, tail, and spot on his cheek. Being the last of his litter to be adopted, he spent the first few days at our house crying and searching for his mom. At some point I sat down at the piano and started playing--he was hooked, and would just stop and listen to the music. So, he was either going to be a Mozart or a Mendelssohn. All I can say is Mendellsohn stuck--the Mr. in the front is used about 25 percent of the time. The funny thing too, is that for some reason, he has always answered when you call him.

Like I said, he and I have been through a lot together--we moved when I was 14, and he obviously came with us. He was there when I would be sitting in my bedroom, missing home, and wondering why on earth we moved. He was there when I would read letters from "home" on the front porch swing, and later wait when letters from friends stopped coming. He was there when I would be up late doing homework. I'd hear this distant meow, and would call, "Mendellsohn?" then we'd play Marco-polo until he would come running in and curl up on whatever was holding my attention--usually my text books or scriptures, or computer. Then he'd go to sleep, content knowing where I was, and having my undivided attention.

Then high school came. Those four years were the toughest yet of my entire life, and the best way to describe it, is that the day we were excused to never have to come back, I walked through the flying papers and running students, numb, and silent, out to my car. There I said the most sincere prayer of gratitude of my life. And through those years, Mendelsohn taught me so much. He taught me what a gentleman should act like.

Through high school I was heavily involved in choir and athletic training, both of which made for some very late nights. No matter what though, when I would pull up to my house way after dark, I would park across the street, turn off the car and look to the house. There Mendelsohn would be, sitting exactly in the middle of the road, calling for me to come home. He would sit there--snow falling--and give me all the time in the world as he would wait patiently for me. I remember a night or two I sat in my car and cried when everything just felt like too much. After waiting in the middle for a while, he would walk up to the car and call a few times, then sit right outside my door. I think Mr. Mendellsohn was the first gentleman in my life--he always went at least half-way, and was always the first to say hello. Half the time he was content once he knew I was also. There were even times when a "gentleman" would drop me off at my house, and would speed off as soon as both of my feet hit the sidewalk. But, by the time that gentleman would be all the way down the street, my gentleman would come running, and the conversation would start with a meow from Mendelsohn, then I would respond with ,"hey handsome." Then, together, we would walk up the front steps, go in the house, and then I'd scoop him up, and he'd drape himself over my left shoulder--we've never understood why he would only be on that side. He would always then rub his face on mine, and purr like a locomotive.

So, then there's this thing called more-school. My family and I moved across town just two weeks before I left home. During that time, my handsome man went missing, and I didn't get to say goodbye before I left. Every time I would call home, I would always ask--not wanting to know the answer--if Mendelsohn had come home yet. After a few weeks, the answer was finally, yes! As I talked to family members, they brought the the phone over to Mendellsohn. All I had to say was his name, and he started purring and rubbing his face on the phone. My family had found him back at the old house, and he has since then done the same thing six or seven times. The last time I was home he had been gone again, and a few people had mentioned that maybe he had been looking for me this whole time--at that point I hadn't seen him in almost 2 months--longer than we had ever been apart since he became part of the family.

I had been home for a few days, and had driven past the old house several times, stopped to call for him, but hadn't had any luck. After accepting the fact that I might never see him again, I pleaded with Heavenly father that Mendelsohn would be safe, and become someone else's gentleman--wondering if maybe someone else needed him more than I did. Finally, on my way home, I stopped at the old house, stood on the corner, and called and called. After a little over five minutes, I heard low, frantic meows, and then saw my Mendellsohn tear around from the backyard and run up to me. I couldn't believe it. I scooped him up but he jumped out of my arms and stood there talking to me. I followed him as he walked me up to the front door, meowing in relief that he'd found me, and life was back to normal. After he had taken me to the door, he turned around and looked me in the eye, as it all hit me.

He didn't understand--to him, he was my handsome man--the only person in the world I called handsome. He thought he could just go back to a place and go back to that time when I would get home and he would walk me to the door. I stood there, telling him that this was no longer home. After I picked him up and took him to the car, we drove away, as he stood looking out the back window at the old house.
I didn't know what to tell him.

As of now, my Mr. Mendellsohn still treks it back to the old house--probably still looking for me. And of course, I fear the day that I call home and hear that he's gone for good, but no matter what, he will always be my first handsome man.

There will come a day, when I will find my eternal handsome man. We've always joked that that guy will have to ask Mendelsohn for permission, but there is quite a bit of truth to it. Mendelsohn has taught me a lot, and been that gentleman in my life--he has been one of the brightest and most beautiful sunsets.

Today, I am just grateful for those special friends that make a world of difference.

With Lots of Love,
Tayler
